Summer 2018 Engineering Interns

Pointwise, Inc., the leading independent developer of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) meshing software, seeks Engineering Interns for summer 2018 on our Technical Support, Product Development, and Applied Research teams.

Technical Support

In this position, you will be responsible for assisting with quality assurance testing of new features, generation of meshes for benchmarks, and researching various customer-reported issues. Typical tasks may include:

  • Generating structured, unstructured, and hybrid meshes on complex 3D configurations across multiple application areas
  • Writing scripts to automate the construction of meshes or the application of a feature using our Tcl-based scripting language, Glyph
  • Developing and executing testing plans for software performance testing on new and existing features
  • Assisting with customer case research

Product Development

Pointwise product development interns participate in the development, testing, documentation and release of our software product. As an intern, your activities may include:

  • Writing and/or reviewing C/C++ code (to specifications)
  • Interactive product testing
  • Automated (batch) testing via Tcl/Tk and/or Python scripts

You may have the opportunity to learn and use the following tools:

  • Pointwise mesh generation software and plugin SDK
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 and/or GNU g++, gmake and gdb
  • Tcl/Tk and/or Python scripting languages
  • YouTrack for defect issue tracking and TeamCity for continuous integration testing
  • TWiki, intranet wiki and collaboration forum

Applied Research

Applied Research interns participate in mesh generation research through the design, implementation, and testing of novel mesh generation algorithms. As a summer intern, your activities may include:

  • Writing prototype C/C++ code to investigate mesh generation concepts
  • Performing a literature review in support of mesh generation algorithm development
  • Testing and benchmarking research software

To successfully participate in these activities, you will learn to use the following tools:

  • Pointwise mesh generation software
  • Microsoft Visual Studio or GNU development tools
  • Open source CFD tools, such as, OpenFOAM and SU2


You are a candidate for an internship at Pointwise if you:

  • Are an excellent communicator, both when speaking and when writing.
  • Are working toward a degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Are interested in mesh generation and/or CFD as a career.
